The Lauderhill Housing Authority, in partnership with Broward County and GL Homes, used creative financing in the construction of 26 new single family near NW 55th Avenue. The homes were completed and sold to qualified first time homebuyers in 2007 via a lottery that attracted nearly 1,000 applicants.
Also in 2007, the Lauderhill Housing Authority acquired forty-two units in the Central Lauderhill area for the purpose of rehabilitation. Twenty-six of the units are located in Windermere Condominiums and sixteen units are located in Sunshine Villas which is directly behind Windermere. In partnership with the Broward County Housing & Community Development Division the Housing Authority will receive an Affordable Housing Program Grant to assist with redevelopment efforts. Renovations began in February on Phase I of the project, and Phase II and III will continue throughout 2008-2009.
